Overview
The Arizona Students’ Association (ASA) seeks a full-time Executive Director for a statewide student advocacy association. The ideal candidate has a proven ability to foster coordination and cooperation among diverse groups. He or she will be committed to getting results in a fast-paced environment and be able to handle a heavy workload with a multitude of responsibilities. The position is based in Phoenix, Arizona and reports to the ASA Board of Directors, which is comprised of student leaders from Arizona’s public universities.

About the Arizona Students’ Association
The Arizona Students’ Association is a nonprofit advocacy organization directed and funded by Arizona’s public university students. ASA works for accessible, affordable higher education in Arizona by advocating to elected officials and running grassroots campaigns on issues important to students. Recent issues ASA has worked on include: opposing tuition increases, increasing state-based financial aid, and passing legislation to reduce the cost of textbooks.

Job Responsibilities
The Executive Director is the chief administrator of the Arizona Students’ Association and has the general authority with respect to its business and affairs, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.
The Executive Director manages the ASA Central Office, hires and manages ASA staff, oversees ASA initiatives and campaigns, manages and implements advocacy efforts, and performs or directs all necessary tasks required by the Association as authorized by the Board. The Executive Director reports directly to the ASA Board of Directors.
The Executive Director will be responsible for the following:
Implementing the vision of the Board of Directors
Creating short-term and long-term organizational plans based on the goals set by the Board of Directors
Hiring, managing, and firing appropriate personnel
Training and providing additional development opportunities for staff members
Developing an annual budget with the ASA Treasurer and Finance Committee
Managing the ASA budget on a day-to-day basis and delivering financial information to the Board of Directors
Creating ASA issue campaigns with the Board of Directors and overseeing the implementation of campaigns on each of ASA’s member campuses
Fostering and maintaining relationships with various individuals, including members of the Arizona Board of Regents and their staff, elected officials and their staff, and university administrators
Building partnerships and coalitions with key groups
Planning and implementing the organization’s external communications strategy
Maintaining corporate records to ensure that ASA is in compliance with all pertinent local, state and federal requirements
Carrying out other duties as authorized or required by the ASA Board of Directors


Qualifications
The Arizona Students’ Association seeks candidates who excel in strategic thinking, are results-oriented, and have strong staff management skills.
The Executive Director will have:
A relevant Bachelor’s degree
Experience in grassroots organizing and advocacy
2 or more years of staff management experience
2 or more years of budgeting experience
Effective verbal and written communication skills
An ability to manage multiple priorities and problem solve
An ability and willingness to work and travel outside the standard business schedule

The following are a plus, but not requirements:
Knowledgeable about student governments and/or state student associations
Knowledgeable about Arizona’s public university system


Salary and Benefits
Annual salary range for the Executive Director position is $40,000-50,000, depending on experience. Benefits include paid time off and full health and dental insurance coverage.
